Since I was a little girl, I've always shoot for the starts: I want to go to college and study my dream-career, I want to work with animals, I want to marry the man of my dreams, I want to have a house with a glass-walled attic, and I want to go on a two-year safari to South Africa. Obviously, some of these goals are waaaayy long-term, some of them I already accomplished.
I believe there is nothing wrong with the desires you have for yourself, there is not a limit for your dreaming above and beyond... but there will always, always, be that one person who disapproves, or thinks those goals are too far away from your reach.
You need to choose from a lot of colleges! What if they don't accept you?
Are you sure you want to smell like poop for the rest of your life?
The perfect man doesn't exist!
Don't you think that's a little less privacy you will have?
Where are you going to get the money to travel?
But God forbid, you want, or are in the process, of having a child... Do. Not. Get. Me. Started!
I'm not even going to bother listing all the things I've been told or warned about from labor up until he/she goes to college. I would be way too long and I have better things to think about.
It was the same tune I heard from people when I started dating Clint, and it was the same one I heard when we got engaged, the same one when we got married... and now, when we are expecting our little bundle of joy and destruction, I am hearing the same song. All. Over. Again!
I've come to terms with the fact that this song is never going to end, it will always exist. But even if the same song plays forever, we have better things to worry about, better things to occupy ourselves with..
...even better songs to listen to :)
Blessings,
